Here are Tips to Avoid Damage to Toyota Car Power Steering

Almost all Toyota cars now use electric power steering called EPS. EPS maintenance is not as complicated as hydraulic power steering because most of its components use an electrical system and are controlled by a computer in a module.

Toyota's newest car on average already uses Electric Power Steering (EPS). EPS or power steering relies on power assistance from an electric motor to lighten the load on the driver's hands, making it easier and more comfortable when turning the wheel.

EPS maintenance is not as complicated as power steering because most of its components use an electrical system and are controlled by a computer in a module. Therefore, problems that occur are easier to detect through the indicators on the car's instrument panel. EPS is at risk of being disturbed if car users are not good at driving. So, here's an easy way to take care of Auto2000-style EPS:

1. Don't Ride the Damaged Road at High Speed

Regardless of the type of AutoFamily's car power steering, crashing on a damaged road at high speed is not allowed because it can damage many components, including the axle and the steering boot rack that are under the car and are connected to the EPS mechanism.

2. Pay attention to the condition of the Steer Boot Rack

Make sure the rubber on the steering rack is not torn because it is an entrance for dirt and water. If the condition is already cracked, it should be replaced. If left unchecked, the steering housing can be damaged quickly due to water, dust and dirt entering the steering wheel housing and causing the steering shaft to rust. Indications that the steering wheel housing is dirty or rusty is that there is a sound when the steering wheel is turned, besides that the steering wheel feels heavier when turned.

3. Avoid Passing the Flood Road

On some vehicle models, the EPS electric motor is located at the bottom of the steering column. If water soaks, the electric motor may be damaged and must be replaced. There is also another model that puts an EPS electric motor inside the cabin so it is relatively safe when passing through puddles. AutoFamily can confirm the position of the EPS electric motor in the vehicle manual or ask the service advisor Auto2000 repair

4. Pay attention to the Electrical System and Car Battery

The main source of power from the EPS is the car's electricity which is active as long as the car's engine is turned on. If the battery is low, the steering control will feel heavy because the EPS will malfunction. If left unchecked, it will damage the EPS components that require stable and strong electrical power. This includes paying attention to the condition of the alternator as the main supplier of electric power when the engine is turned on.

5. Maintain the Durability of EPS Mechanical Components

These tips are useful for maintaining the durability of mechanical components that are still on the EPS. Try not to make maneuvers that make the steering wheel turn hard to the right or left. Although trivial, the performance of the power steering becomes heavier so that its service life decreases. Also avoid the habit of turning the steering wheel when the vehicle engine is off because there is no electric current in the EPS. In addition, park the vehicle with the tires straight and do not turn.

6. Maintaining the EPS Module

The EPS module is a data processor from the steering wheel angle sensor to command the EPS system. This component rarely encounters problems because the module positions are generally located on the inside of the dashboard. But if it is damaged, then the steering wheel will not function at all. To prevent problems with the electric power steering, always perform regular service at the Auto2000 repair shop.

“Many advantages are obtained from the application of Electric Power Steering in cars. In addition to making the steering wheel lighter and more comfortable, the engine is also more efficient because it is not burdened so it is fuel efficient. Even so, there are several things that must be considered so that the EPS remains durable and does not have problems, including performing regular service at the Auto2000 workshop to maintain its condition. Please book via Auto2000 Digiroom to book services and take advantage of profitable promotions," explained Nur Imansyah Tara, Aftersales Business Division Head Auto2000, Monday (30/5/2022).
